Pensacola Ends Knoxville’s Season 4-2.

May 7, 2021

Knoxville’s remarkable season came to an abrupt end, as Pensacola closed out the first round playoff series 4-2. Scott Cuthrell and Anthony McVeigh had given the Bears a 2-1 lead going into the third period. But Pensacola scored two goals in a minute and a half in the third to cruise to the win.

Knoxville drops First Game of Playoffs 5-2.

Pensacola dominated the second period with 3 unanswered goals to breeze to a 5-2 win in the first game of the playoffs.  Austyn Plevy and Johnny Curran had briefly given the Bears the lead with back to back goals in the first.  Peter Di Salvo stopped 20 of 21 in relief of Austyn Roudebush.   Game Summary.

Loss Streak Reaches 3 as Mayhem Beat Ice Bears 4-1.

Stepan Timofeyev had the lone goal for the Ice Bears in a lackluster road performance.  Macon won the regular season finale going away 4-1.

(F) Nick Master had been placed on season ending injured reserve following a viscous hit against Birmingham on April 17.  In a corresponding move, (F) Stepan Timofeyev has been signed to a Standard Player Contract.

Ice Flyers Claim Second Straight over Knoxville.

April 25, 2021

Stefan Brucato staked Knoxville to a 1-0 lead in the first only to see it evaporate. The Ice Flyers scored four unanswered goals in the second, the last coming with one second left in the period, to breeze to the 4-1 win.

Ice Bears Suffer Tough 4-2 Loss in Pensacola.

April 24, 2021

Pensacola scored two late goals to win this one and snap Knoxville’s 3-game win streak.  Anthony McVeigh and Stefan Brucato scored for the Bears while Peter Di Salvo saved 34 of 37 shots on goal.

Knoxville Wins Third Straight in Birmingham 5-1.

Five different goal scorers lead Knoxville to a dominant 5-1 win in Birmingham.  Austyn Roudebush stopped 29/30 shots.  The Ice Bears finished the season series against the Bulls at 10-1-0.

Knoxville Beats Macon 3-0 in Home Finale.

In a tune-up for the playoffs, the Ice Bears Dominated Macon 3-0 in the season home finale.  Kenton Helgesen had an assist and a rink-long EN. Brady Fleurent Jacob Benson had a goal apiece.  Austyn Roudebush stopped all 28 shots he faced. Game Summary.

Bears win 8-5 Shootout with Bulls.

It was like an old west shootout on Wiener Dog Night, as the Ice Bears bested Birmingham 8-5. Josh Thrower threw down and 8 different Ice Bears had goals. Peter Di Salvo and Austyn Roudebush combined for 18 saves.  Game Summary.

Macon Beats Knoxville 2-1 In Overtime Heartbreaker

Macon scored 35 seconds into the overtime to win 2-1 on $2 Tuesday, sending Knoxville to its 5th straight loss. Jacob Benson had the lone Knoxville goal.  Peter Di Salvo stopped 25/27 shots in the loss.  Game Summary.

Knoxville has added (G) Cody Porter on a Standard Player Contract. Cody rejoins the Ice Bears after spending parts of the last two seasons in Knoxville. He most recently played this season with Zaglebie Sosnowiec in Poland.  (F) Stepan Timofeyev has been placed on waivers.

Birmingham Gets Its First Win Over the Ice Bears.

April 10, 2021

Birmingham scored two goals late in the third period to give the Bulls the win 4-2 in Birmingham. It was the first win of the season by the Bulls over the Bears. Knoxville had the lead on goals by Benson and Master but couldn’t hold it.

Ice Bears Drop Third Straight to Huntsville.

April 9, 2021

The Ice Bears lost their third straight to the Havoc on a 6-5 shoot out in Huntsville.  Knoxville had the lead late only to surrender the tying goal at 14:34 of the third.  Huntsville won the shootout 3-0.

Roy Named Player of the Week.

The SPHL announced that Mathieu Roy has been named the SPHL Player of the Week for March 29-April 4.  Roy scored two goals, including one game-winner, and added three assists.  It is the sixth player of the week for Knoxville this year.

Huntsville Still Dangerous.

Two-time defending SPHL champion Huntsville proved it is still dangerous with a 5-3 win over the Ice Bears in Huntsville.  The second straight win over Knoxville may indicate the Havoc are rounding into play off form.

Huntsville Snaps Knoxville’s Home Win Streak at 12.

April 3, 2021

Huntsville snapped Knoxville’s home win streak at 12 on Wizard Night.  Mathew Barnaby scored at 1:12 of overtime to give Huntsville the 4-3 win.  Knoxville had fought back from a 3-1 deficit on goals by Mathieu Roy and Jacob Benson to knot the game. Game Summary.

Peter Di Salvo stopped 25/27 shots behind goals from Callum Fryer, Scott Cuthrell, Mathieu Roy, and Colton Heffley to lead Knoxville to a 4-2 win over Macon.  Looks like the playoffs are just around the corner.  Game Summary.

Knoxville’s Austyn Roudebush Named Warrior Hockey/Sphl Player of the Month.

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced that goaltender Austyn Roudebush of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been named the Warrior Hockey/SPHL Player of the Month for March.  Roudebush went 8-1-0 for the month, posting a 1.20 goals-against average, a 0.959 save percentage.

The Ice Bears roared out of March with a 3-0 win in Huntsville. Johnny Curran scored twice to front Peter DiSalvo’s 33 saves.  The win makes Di Salvo the career leader in SPHL history. A look back at a magical month of March for the Ice Bears: 12 games; 11-1-0 record; 6-0-0 at home; 4-1-0 on the road; 40 goals for; 17 goals against;
3 shutouts.

The Bears claimed another 4-2 win over Birmingham on Dino Races Night.  Scott Cuthrell scored for the second straight night to go along with Jacob Benson’s pair of tallies.  Peter Di Salvo tied for the all time lead in career SPHL wins. Game Summary.

Knoxville came up short 4-1 in Macon in a battle for first place in the SPHL.  The loss ended Knoxville’s 10-game winning streak, while extending Macon’s lead to 3 points.  The lone tally for the Bears came on Jacob Benson’s 12th goal of the season.

Brett Beauvais took a pass from Mathieu Roy and buried the game winner with 18 seconds left in OT to lift the Bears to a 3-2 win over Birmingham.  Roy and Jacob Benson had tied it with 3rd period goals a minute apart.  The tenth consecutive win is a franchise record for Knoxville.  Game Summary.

Knoxville’s Austyn Roudebush has made history as the only SPHL player to be named Player of the Week for 3 consecutive weeks.  Roudebush has led the Ice Bears to 8 consecutive wins, while posting an 0.87 goals against average and a 0.970 save percentage. Congrats Austyn!

Austyn Roudebush stopped 48 of 49 shots, plus all five in the shootout, to pace the Ice Bears to a 2-1 win in Pensacola.  Andrew McLean got the only shootout goal for his second game winner in as many nights. The Ice Bears have now won eight straight.

Austyn Roudebush stopped 23 of 23 shots in his Ice Bears debut on Military Appreciation night. Jacob Benson scored all that was needed to beat the visiting Pensacola Ice Flyers.  Brady Fleurent added an empty netter for the final score.

One night after a thrilling win in Knoxville, the Bears were soundly beaten in Macon.  Trailing 3-2 going into the third, the Bears gave up 4 unanswered goals for a 7-2 final. David Brancik and Austin Plevy had the only scores for Knoxville.

Knoxville rode a strong forecheck to a 6-2 win over Huntsville.   Sanvido and McVeigh scored twice; Heffley and van Riemsdyk added one each.  Di Salvo got his 100th pro win in goalGame Summary.

The Ice Bears announced today that pursuant to the league’s safety protocols, this weekend’s games vs Huntsville will feature 4-on-4 hockey. Teams will play a full 60-min game with standard overtime and shootout rules in place.

The Knoxville Ice Bears have placed Noah Corson, Scott Cuthrell, Mike Gornall, and Lincoln Griffin on team suspension for 7 games for undisclosed reasons.  All players will return to play on Thursday, February 4 2021 vs. Birmingham.

The Bears have added (F) Brendan van Riemsdyk and (G) Peter Di Salvo to Standard Player contracts.  Van Riemsdyk just wrapped up a 4-year NCAA DI career. Di Salvo comes to Knoxville after spending the last two seasons with the Quad City Storm.  Welcome aboard boys!

Alex Carlson Suffers Season Ending Injury.

The Ice Bears announced today that D - Alex Carlson has been placed on Season Ending Injured Reserve.  This comes after nasty check into the boards in Friday’s game against Macon.  We all wish Alex a speedy recovery.

Jeremy Brodeur is headed for the AHL.

After a cup of coffee in Knoxville, Jeremy Brodeur is headed to play for the Binghamton Devils (AHL), the top affiliate of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils.  Brodeur commented “I loved being in Knoxville under Coach Carr, I think the team here has the tools to win a championship.”

Tonight’s road game against the Birmingham Bulls has been postponed, per SPHL safety protocols.  The League Office is working with both teams on rescheduling the game to a later date.

The Ice bears lost a tough home opener to Macon on Friday.  The two hour delay didn't faze the Mayhem, who tallied 3 2nd period goals en route to a 6-3 win.  Carlson, Fries, and Plevy scored for Knoxville.

Master Named Player of the Week. 

January 5, 2021

Nick Master has been named the Warrior Hockey/SPHL Player of the Week for December 28-January 3.  Master led Knoxville to their first win of the season, with a pair of goals and an assist in a 3-0 blanking of Macon.

Nick Master led the way to the first win of the season, with  two goals & an assist.  Rookie Jeremy Brodeur had 27 saves. Dalton Skelly had an empty netter. Josh Thrower added a a fight and an assist.

The Ice Bears announced today that forward Mitch Slattery and Defenseman Zane Schartz have been placed on waivers.  Defenseman Dalton Skelly has been signed to a standard player contract.

 Home Opener Rescheduled.

December 28, 2020

The Ice Bears opening home game originally scheduled for December 31st vs Macon is now Thursday March 25th vs Birmingham.  The game scheduled for March 11th is now March 12th against Huntsville.  The March 7th game originally against Birmingham is now against Macon.

The much anticipated season opener ended on a sour note for Knoxville.  Goals by newcomers Mike Gornall and Austin Plevy weren't enough to stop a late goal by the Havoc as they took it 3-2.  Game summary at the link.

Star forward Bryce Nielsen announced today that he is hanging up the skates.

SPHL Announces Abbreviated Season.

The SPHL announced today that the 2020-21 season will be comprised of 5 teams and a 42-game regular season.  Birmingham, Huntsville, Knoxville, Macon, and Pensacola will kick things off December 26.
