Ice Bears Get Strong Bounce Back OT Win in Huntsville.

After their lackluster loss to Macon Saturday, the Ice bears got a strong bounce back win in overtime Sunday in Huntsville. Dawson McKinney had a hat trick, including the game winner in overtime. It was his third overtime winner of the season, and he is the only Ice Bear with a goal in overtime this year. His goal came after an apparent game winner by Huntsville was waived off. Sean Kuhn was stellar in his debut for Knoxville, stopping 55 of 57 Huntsville shots. Game Summary.
Ice Bears Sluggish in 0-3 Loss to Macon at Home.

The Ice Bears turned in a sluggish performance at home Saturday before a sold out Wiener Dog Races crowd, losing 0-3 to the last place Macon Mayhem. The loss meant they could gain no ground on 8th place Evansville for the last playoff spot. Knoxville could mount no offense after falling behind 0-1 in the second period. Two quick goals by Macon early in the third period all but sealed the game for the visitors. Zane Steeves had 22 saves on 25 shots. Game Summary.

Brett Mecrones scored the game winning goal with 3:53 left to lift the Ice Bears to a 3-2 win over visiting Macon. Derek Osik tied the game at 1 with a low wrist shot early in the second period. Moe Levac got his second goal in as many games to give the Ice Bears a 2-1 lead early in the third period. Macon later tied it on a power play to set up Mecrones’ heroics. HUNTERSVILLE, NC (February 13, 2024) The SPHL announced today that Zane Steeves of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been named the Warrior/SPHL Player of the Week for February 5-11. Steeves went 2-0-0 with a 2.98 goals-against average and a 0.937 save percentage as he guided the Ice Bears to a pair of wins over Fayetteville and Roanoke. . . Read More.

The Ice Bears got their first four point weekend in two months with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win in Roanoke. It was Knoxville’s first win over the Dawgs this season. Dawson McKinney got the overtime winner, his second goal of the game. The OT came after Roanoke tied it on a garbage two-man advantage late in the third period. Moe Levac got it started in the first period with his first goal of the year. Cole McKechney and Brett Mecrones also scored for Knoxville. Zane Steeves had 57 saves to keep the Ice Bears in it. Newcomer Brandon Picard set the pace with two goals in his first game for Knoxville in a strong 5-2 win at home over the Marksmen. Troy Murray and Brett Mecrones also scored for Knoxville and Rex Moe sealed it with an empty netter. Zane Steeves had 33 saves on 35 shots for the solid win. Game Summary.

February 3, 2024
The Ice Bears could not capitalize on the prior night’s fine performance, coming out with a weekend split after a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the Thunderbolts. Derek Osik scored the lone Knoxville goal early in the third period after the game had been largely decided. Riley Morris allowed four goals through 33 minutes before giving way to Zane Steeves. Morris had 18 saves on 22 shots. Steeves saved 11 of 13 shots. Game Summary.

Rex Moe and Dawson McKinney each scored a goal and Knoxville held on for a much needed 2-1 win in Evansville. Zane Steeves was stellar in goal with 44 saves on 45 shots in the winning effort. Knoxville gained a valuable 2 points in the chase against Evansville for the final playoff spot. Game Summary.
Peoria Gets Weekend Sweep in Knoxville.
January 27, 2024
Knoxville played a much better game Saturday night at home, but the result was still a 4-2 loss to visiting Peoria. Rex Moe scored early to tie it at one in the first period. Peoria added three straight goals in the second. Davis Kirkendall got the final tally early in the third but the Bears could pull no closer. Zane Steeves saved 30 of 34 shots in the losing cause. Rivermen Shut Out Ice Bears at Home.
January 26, 2024
Peoria came to Knoxville Friday night and simply dominated the game, shutting out the Ice Bears 5-0. The Rivermen gave up only 16 shots on goal for the entire game. They had 30 shots total, five of which found the back of the net. Riley Morris played well in goal without much help from the rest of the team. Game Summary.

January 20, 2024
At long last the losing streak is over as the Ice Bears claimed a 4-1 win Saturday night in Quad City. Daryk Dube-Plouffe had his first goal as an Ice Bear. Davis Kirkendall had two goals, and Sam Dabrowsky added an empty netter to cap a game that was never really in doubt. Riley Morris was a wall in net, giving up only one goal on 44 shots. Knoxville went into Quad City hoping to stop its 12-game losing streak. It was not to be, however, as the Storm handed the Ice Bears their 13th straight defeat 5-3. Rex Moe scored late in the first period and Dawson McKinney scored late in the second to pull the Bears within one heading into the third period. Derek Osik tied it at 7:33 of the third only to see it slip away on two late Storm goals. Zane Steeves played well in net, saving 37 of 42 Quad City shots. Game Summary.

Birmingham extended its season dominance over Knoxville to five straight games with a 3-2 overtime win in an MLK Day matinee in Pelham. Dawson McKinney tied it in the first period, and Seth Ensor tied it in the third to send the game to overtime. Birmingham’s Dylan Johnson ended it at 3:32 of the extra stanza. Zane Steeves saved 52 of 55 shots in a valiant effort. Game Summary.

The losing streak reached 11 as the Ice Bears dropped their second straight game at home to Evansville on Saturday night. Three quick goals in succession gave Evansville a 3-0 lead midway through the first period. Logan Coomes got one back before the Thunderbolts stretched the lead to 5-1 early in the second. Knoxville chipped away with three straight goals by Mathieu Boislard, Tyler Rollo, and Rex Moe, but could not draw closer. Evansville added an empty netter for the 6-4 final. Zane Steeves saved 15 shots on 19 tries in his first game back from IR. Marco Costantini had 18 saves on 19 shots over the last two periods. Game Summary.

The Ice Bears played valiantly in a tight game against Evansville at home Friday before succumbing 1-2 in a shootout as the losing streak reached 10 games. Rex Moe had the only goal for Knoxville, carrying a Thunderbolt on a breakaway in the second period. Evansville answered early in the third to send the game into the shootout session. Evansville tallied on their first two shots, while Knoxville failed to score in four attempts. Marco Costantini had 27 saves on 28 Evansville shots in regulation and overtime, before yielding 2 goals on 4 attempts in the shootout. Game Summary.

The Ice Bears played Roanoke for the second straight night on Sunday in Knoxville, losing 1-5. Roanoke scored 3 goals on an astonishing 12 power plays, while Knoxville went 0-6. Davis Kirkendall had the lone goal for Knoxville. In his first game since returning from the ECHL, Kristian Stead had 30 saves on 35 attempts. The game featured 211 combined penalty minutes for both teams, and at least six ejections, including the Roanoke head coach. Knoxville lost Justin Portillo and Cole McKechney for multiple games each due to league suspensions following the game. Game Summary.

Knoxville continued its road trip in Roanoke on Saturday, losing 2-4. For the second game in as many nights, the Ice Bears started strong only to lose their grip in the third period. Davis Kirkendall gave Knoxville the early lead with a goal in the first period. It looked like the Bears might ride that lead to a win but it was not to be. Roanoke scored three goals in three and a half minutes early in the third and never looked back. They added a fourth late in the period before Rex Moe tipped one in on a power play. Marco Costantini looked strong in net until the third period floodgates opened, finishing with 36 saves on 40 shots. Game Summary.

Despite an early lead and out shooting the Marksmen in Fayetteville, Knoxville lost its seventh game in a row, 1-4. Brady Fleurent gave the Ice Bears the early lead at just 1:19 of the first period. Former Ice Bear Roman Kraemer tied it at 13:12 of the first. The game remained tied until Fayetteville broke it open with 3 straight goals in the third period. The Ice Bears celebrated New Year’s Eve on the road in Roanoke against the Rail Yard Dawgs. Much as the prior evening, Knoxville fell 4-5 in overtime despite a strong performance. Derek Osik got his first two goals of the season, Justin Portillo got his first, and Rex Moe scored this first goal since the first game of the season. Troy Kobryn had 47 saves on 52 shots in the losing effort. Game Summary.

The Ice Bears came back with a strong performance in Fayetteville on Saturday following Friday’s debacle, but eventually fell 3-2 in overtime. Brady Fleurent had two goals, with the second coming at 19:59 of the second period to knot the game at two. Fayetteville got the game winner at 3:39 of the overtime. Troy Kobryn saved 50 of 53 shots in the losing effort. Game Summary.

Fayetteville scored five first period goals en route to a 9-1 drubbing of the Ice Bears in Knoxville Friday night. The first two came during a five minute power play after a questionable boarding penalty on Dawson McKinney. Brendan Dowler had the only Knoxville goal in the first period when the score was still respectable at 2-1. Fayetteville never looked back after that with seven unanswered goals. Cody Karpinski had 21 saves on 27 shots before being pulled in the second period. Troy Kobryn saved 20 of 23 shots to finish the game. Game Summary.
Ice Bears Lose Heartbreaker to Roanoke 3-4.

Knoxville took a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at home against Roanoke Tuesday night. Kirill Nizhnikov and Brady Fleurent staked the Ice Bears to a 2-1 lead after the first period. Roanoke tied it in the second and took a 3-2 lead in the third. Davis Kirkendall tied it at three after beating the defense to the goal and slipping a wrister past the Roanoke goalie. The tie lasted about four minutes until former Ice Bear Steven Leonard got the game winning goal. Nizhnikov almost tied it late but missed an open net from close range. Cody Karpinski saved 40 of 44 shots in the loss. Game Summary.

Quad City handed Knoxville its second straight home loss with a 3-2 decision in Knoxville. The Ice Bears took the early lead just over a minute into the game when Dawson McKinney slipped one past the Quad City goalie. Two second period goals gave Quad City the lead going into the third period. The Storm iced it with a power play goal early in the third period. Cole McKechney scored a late third period goal for the second straight night but it was not enough. Cody Karpinski had 32 saves on 35 Quad City shots. Game Summary.

December 22, 2023
Birmingham ended Knoxville’s win streak at five with 4-2 win in Knoxville Friday night. After a tight first period, Knoxville took a 1-0 lead with less than a second left in the period. Troy Murray roped a hard wrist shot past the Bulls’ goalie for the early tally. Birmingham scored twice in the second and rode the 2-1 lead into the third period. The Bulls broke it open late in the third with a steal at center that lead to a three on one breakout goal. They added an empty netter a minute later to seal the deal. Cole McKechney added a goal for final margin. Troy Kobryn had 26 saves on 29 shots in his Ice Bears debut. Game Summary.

HUNTERSVILLE, NC (December 12, 2023) – The SPHL announced today that goaltender Marco Costantini of the Knoxville Ice Bears has been named the Warrior Player of the Week for December 4-10. Marco Costantini was 1:32 away from his second shut out in as many pro starts before yielding the lone Macon goal after a defensive turnover. After a scoreless first period, Jordy Stallard and Tyler Rollo scored for Knoxville in the second period. Troy Murray made it 3-0 at 15:11 of the third with his first goal as an Ice Bear. The Ice Bears shut out the Mayhem 3-0 in Macon for their fourth straight win. After two tight scoreless periods, Tyler Rollo finally broke through with the first goal of the game at 4:39 of the third period. Kirill Nizhnikov added the insurance goal five minutes later. Jordy Stallard added an empty netter to seal it. Marco Costantini stopped 23 shots for the shut out win in his pro debut.

The Knoxville Ice Bears have named former assistant coach Andrew Harrison the franchise’s eighth head coach in team history. Harrison was promoted to interim head coach following Brent Clarke’s resignation on Nov. 5. Harrison, 36, joined the Ice Bears as an assistant coach last season. Knoxville is 6-3 under Harrison after an 0-6 start. The Ice Bears have averaged 3.2 goals per game in that stretch after scoring just seven total goals in the first six games of the year. . . Despite an early Tyler Rollo goal, Knoxville trailed 2-1 after the first period against the Mayhem in Macon. Cole McKechney tied it early in the third period with his first goal of the season. No further scoring lead to the first overtime game of the season for the Ice bears. Dawson McKinney ended it at 2:48 of overtime with his first pro goal. Much like Wednesday’s game, Knoxville fell behind 3-1 in the first period Friday in Knoxville. Riley Robertson had the Ice Bears goal at 12:51 of the first period. Cameron Hough made it 3-2 with a goal in the second. The teams carried that 3-2 score late into the third period before Jordy Stallard tied it with 2:10 left in the game. The Ice Bears faced off against the visiting Peoria Rivermen on Thanksgiving Eve. After spotting the visitors 3 goals in the first period, Jordan Stallard made it 3-1 in the second. The Rivermen answered to go back up by three. Three straight Knoxville goals by Roman Kraemer and Seth Ensor tied it at four in the third. After Peoria took the lead 5-4, Kraemer’s third of the game tied it at five. Tyler Rollo scored the game winner on a power play at 15:21 of the third period. Despite improvement, the Ice Bears still have not solved Birmingham. The Bulls notched their third win of the year over Knoxville, 4-3 Saturday night in Pelham. The win by Birmingham stopped Knoxville's mini win streak at 2. Two goals by Cameron Hough and one by Brady Fleurent were not enough, as the Bulls took a 2-1 lead into the third and made it stick. The Ice Bears claimed their first home win of the season with a 1-0 shutout of the Evansville Thunderbolts Friday night in Knoxville. Brady Fleurent had the lone goal at 6:28 of the second period. Kristian Stead made it stand up, stopping all 25 Evansville shots. The Knoxville penalty killers also deserve a hat tip, as they spent a large portion of the third period defending numerous Evansville power plays. Game Summary.

Brady Fleurent had a hat trick and Cody Karpinski stopped 52 of 53 Marksmen shots as the Ice Bears got their scond win of the year. The Ice Bears took one on the chin in the final game of their three-day road trip, falling 0-6 to the Ice Flyers in Pensacola. After giving up four goals in the fist eight minutes, Knoxville could never get untracked. Cody Karpinski started the game in goal and gave up four goals on six shots. The Ice Bears fell just short with a 4-5 loss to the Ice Flyers in Pensacola. After Pensacola took the early 1-0 lead, Skate Skalde tied it at 4:48 of the first period. Pensacola reeled off three straight before back to back goals by Cameron Hough and Seth Ensor made it 4-3 late in the second. The back-breaker came with two sconds left in the period as Pensacola’s Brendan Soucie chipped in the game winner. Hough added a late goal for the final tally. The Ice Bears got their first win of the season on Thursday night under interim head coach Andrew Harrison. Knoxville claimed a 4-2 victory over the Huntsville Havoc in Huntsville. Brady Fleurent got things started with a goal in the first period. Davis Kirkendall added one in the second to put Knoxville back on top after Huntsville tied it. After Huntsville tied it again in the third, Brendan Dowler got the game winner on a power play. Fleurent capped the scoring with an empty net goal. Knoxville coach Brent Clarke resigned as of Sunday following the worst start in the 22-year history of the Ice Bears. They are currently 0-6 on the season. They have scored 7 goals while giving up 30, both last in the league. The team announced that they would seek an interim coach before the end of the week. The road doesn’t get any easier as Knoxville starts a three-game road trip on Thursday in Huntsville. They then travel to Pensacola for a two-game set with the Ice Flyers over the weekend.

Knoxville lost its sixth straight to open the season with a 2-5 loss to Fayetteville Saturday night in the Crown Coliseum. Jordan Stallard got Knoxville the early lead in the first period. And like the night before, Fayetteville stormed back with 4 straight goals before Brady Fleurent added one late for the Ice Bears. Zane Steeves had 33 saves on 36 shots before being injured in the third period. Kristian Stead finished the game with 11 saves on 13 shots. Knoxville was again seriously out shot 49 to 27. Birmingham scored 3 goals in the second and 3 goals in the third to win convincingly Saturday night in Pelham. The Bulls outshot the Ice Bears 55-18. Zane Steeves had 49 saves on 55 Birmingham shots. Birmingham's Kishaun Gervais had a hat trick to go with his 2 goals from the previous night in Knoxville. Game Summary.

Knoxville opened its home season Friday night against the Birmingham Bulls. Birmingham never trailed, tallying two goals in the first period, two in the second, and one in the third. Knoxville was outshot 42-18. Kristian Stead gave up four goals on 25 shots before giving way to Zane Steeves. Steeves had 14 saves on 15 shots. Another former Ice Bear, Hayden Stewart, got the win in goal for the Bulls. Game Summary.

Knoxville dropped its second straight game in Macon 1-2 on Saturday. Coy Prevost had the only goal for Knoxville, tying the game through the end of the second period. CJ Hayes broke away on a breakaway goal at 12:09 of the third period to seal the win for Macon. Kristian Stead had 28 saves on 30 shot attempts by the Mayhem. Former Ice Bear Jimmy Poreda got the win in goal for Macon, saving 34 shots on 35 attempts. Game Summary.

Knoxville opened its 2023-2024 season against the much-improved Macon Mayhem in Macon on Friday night. Rex Moe got the season off to a good start with the first goal of the game. Brady Fleurent gave the Ice Bears a 2-1 lead in the second period. After a Macon goal, the score was tied at 2 going into the final stanza. Macon proceeded to erupt for 5 straight goals to win going away. Dereck Baribeau had 21 saves on 28 Macon shots. Game Summary.

Knoxville opened training camp today with a smattering of familiar faces and many first-time Ice Bears. Jason Price heads the list, returning for his 7th tour in Knoxville. Brady Fleurent is back for year five. Also returning are Colton Fletcher, Cole McKechney, Riley Robertson, and Justin Portillo. Newcomers feature many SPHL veterans, including Seth Ensor (Pensacola), Zane Steeves (Evansville), Mo Levac (Macon), Alex Basey (Peoria), Coy Prevost (Evansville), and Gavin Yates (Pensacola). About Us
The Knoxville Ice Bears Booster Club (“KIBBC”) is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to assisting with the needs of players and the families of the Knoxville Ice Bears Hockey Team. We are a caring and enthusiastic group who hold fundraisers throughout the year to support our mission of making Knoxville a great place for the players to call home. We strive to make the members of the Knoxville Ice Bears as comfortable as possible during their time in Knoxville, to make them feel welcome in our community, and to introduce and promote hockey and the Ice Bears to the City of Knoxville and its surrounding areas.

If you would like to become a member of the KIBBC, simply download an application at the link below, or pick one up at the Booster Club table. Mail your completed application with your check or money order to the KIBBC at P.O. Box 51532, Knoxville, TN 37950, or bring your application and check to the next Booster Club meeting or home game. You’ll be glad you did!
The KIBBC is a nonprofit corporation that endeavors to operate in accordance with Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue code. The KIBBC is registered as a nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of Tennessee.
